California State University, Channel Islands
Technical and diplomatic collaboration decluttered and streamlined this university’s user experience.
When leaders from Cal State University–Channel Islands (CSUCI) reached out to Stamats, the school’s website was outdated. Branding applications, features, content, and design hadn’t met the fast-moving pace of the dynamic university and were working against its larger recruiting and admissions goals. Prospective students couldn’t get a clear sense of CSUCI online and couldn’t rely on the site to accurately represent the candor of the campus.
Stamats began the project by simply listening to university stakeholders. As part of the California State University System, the school had its own digital design team and those team members had valuable insights about what was working and what wasn’t. Our approach needed to engage internal resources, honor the incremental improvements that had already been made, fit within the university system’s flexible design template, and address multiple project goals.
Focusing on design, user experience, content, social media, and analytics, our consultants and digital services team got to work crafting an online presence that better captured the experience of a Cal State Channel Islands education.
Contemporary photography, clearer task-based site architecture, engaging social media tools, and more relevant content helped recreate CSUCI.edu—transforming it from a digital distraction into a vital asset.
The CSUCI project was a success both technically and diplomatically. From project kick-off to completion, our digital team worked closely with the university’s own designers to build consensus and foster a strong collaborative relationship.
The result speaks for itself—CSUCI’s new site better represents its place among California’s top educational institutions. It also more clearly showcases the region’s stunning natural beauty and accurately reflects the school’s diverse campus community.
